A Royal Wedding: A Day Off

This is a little off topic:

Well Well, it’s the 29th April and all being well in about 2 hours from now the second in line to the throne will be getting married. Wherever you are in the world I’m sure the pictures will beamed straight to your TV. I understand that they are expecting about 3 billion people to tune in! I had around 100 friends and family at my wedding, it was on TV (recorded at least) and photographed and it was in a 700 year old castle and I was pretty nervous. We never even made the Welsh news though, never mind international television, nobody offered me a magazine deal either but I’m not at all bitter :-).  Don’t worry you won’t be getting a blow by blow account of it here. But it is a non-billing day day off here in the UK, when the wedding was announced at the end of last year it was decided by those that know best that this should be a public holiday. hoorah!

So my question for the Friday is what are you doing with your one day off, if you have one?  –  Anyone having a party? Anyone been invited? Let me know in the comments :-)

More relevant news this week, Microsoft has increased the cost of it certifications from 1st July. You can find out how it affects you.

It’s a Deal, It’s a Steal…

Its the sale of the century. To coin a cleaned up phrase from a Guy Ritchie film (either Snatch or Lock Stock, I forget. No prize on offer, but if you know which film its from leave me a comment with the answer.)

This phrase pretty much describes the deal my good friend Justin Hostettler-Davies has on the go over on his blog http://databaseexpertise.com/. Justin ‘Del Boy’ Hostettler-Davies has managed to secure deal on on some IT&Dev Connections conference ticket  being held in London between 13th – 15th June.

Justin has two tickets available for just £100 a ticket. If you would like to go but couldn’t afford the £800 fee go and see JHD and ask if he’ll let you have one of his at a much reduced fee. The savings you make could be very beneficial. All the information you need can be found on JHDs blog http://databaseexpertise.com/

Microsoft Certification Exams: Costs are Increasing

It was announced yesterday that the cost of taking a Microsoft exam will increase from the 1 July. In the UK the price will be increasing from £88 to £99. A fair amount of my readers and visitors come for the USA. If you are taking the test across the Atlantic in the USA then the price will be increasing from $125 to $150. If I have missed out your region please accept my apologies, there is a nice link you can follow below that will help determine how the cost rise will impact on you:

I guess this might be the incentive you need to get the exam booked and taken before the July deadline, and save a few £££’s in the process.

Hostettler the Viking Needs a New Ship and Your Help

Hostettler the Viking Needs a New Ship…And Your Help.

My good friend Justin Hostettler Davies (Blog @DBExpertise) pinged me a mail in the middle of last week saying that he entered Idera’s SQL Cruise contest. He asked me to have a read of his entry and let him know what I thought. You can read Justin’s entry here http://sqlserverperformance.idera.com/forums/showthread.php?22-Hostettler-amp-the-Bottleneckers.

It’s a pretty cool story about Hostettler the Viking, that I think may have legs as a cartoon in it’s own right. For now, I think Justin would appreciate it if you would have a read of his story and perhaps leave a comment if you like it. I know he would enjoy the Alaskan cruise and the SQL training that goes with it…

Please do give JHD your feedback over on http://sqlserverperformance.idera.com/forums/showthread.php?22-Hostettler-amp-the-Bottleneckers you might actually help the Viking get on the (SQL Cruise) ship too.

Just as an aside, Justin’s story is in several parts as he has expanded on the story over the week, so please have a look through the posts
