I’m attending the PASS Data Community this week in Seattle and, mainly as a record for myself so I can look back and see how the event has gone, but also to share the experience with others who may be thinking of attending events like this in the future I’m going to try and live blog each day. If you are going this year, I have a session called “Driven by the 9s” which I’m delivering on Friday. I’m also moderating three sessions throughout the week too. You can read more about the conference this week https://passdatacommunitysummit.com/
Live Blog Day 1 Monday 14th November
Times are shown in GMT and PST (GMT/PST) and in reverse chronological order. If you want to read the whole day, start at the bottom and read up
22:49/2:49pm
Probably the last update for today. I made it to Seattle. The flight was interesting and delayed by 2 hours but we got here on time.
We’ll back tomorrow with Tuesday’s updates. I’m off out soon to find my mate Kevin Chant and everybody else who is here for some beers but before then I might need a little nap.
22:35/14:35
I’m the hotel, I have rather a nice corner room so one can’t complain.

21:30/13:30
Cleared customs and was allowed in. Eventually. I had to trawl through my emails to find my return ticket. I also didn’t have a business card on me, which annoyed the officer on the desk. Still, all is well that ends well and I’m here
19:00/13:00
Had a chat with someone who has worked at Tesla and runs a creative company in San Franisco. The people you meet on planes.
1800/12:00
That was rather a long sleep. But I needed it
14:24 It’s all going on
So we are about over Iceland airspace. I have internet. I’ve enjoyed my lunch. I have some great new content for the website, thanks to Mark Williams. It’s been a very productive day.

14:13 Lunch
Lunch was rather nice for a plane, I had a nice glass of red, it might be about time to adjust to the time zone. I might try and snooze for the next couple of hours. I’ll keep you posted.
12:45/08:45 G&T o’clock
Lunch is being served and the aperitifs are flowing.
11:45/03:45 We’ve taken off
Well, we’ve been delayed by about 90 minutes, but we are now taking off. The captain suggests he can make up all the time and we’ll land on time. I like when they put their foot down.
No need to get off (11:11/03:11)
The nice jovial policeperson said, “Nah your alright”. The overweight pringle packet tested ok, we are good to go.
We might have to get off 10:45/02:45
The police are on board. The police might need us to disembark said the captain. “WTF?” said 350 people on the plane
Delayed 10:15/02:15
We pulled back and were about to taxi out to take when the captain announced that “the police” had asked to return to the stand.
Boarded the plane 9:45/01:45
Sat down and was told the pane was ref
09:20/01:20
A new client has been in touch as wait… Interesting times.
09:14/01:14
Waiting
08:47/00:47
It’s taken me a while to work out the plane thing on facebook. But I managed to post it. Yay me!

08:24/00:24
Phoned home and checked the kids have gone to school ok and the wife if alright. Waiting.
07:35/23:35(-1)
A light, well lightish breakfast of a bacon roll and the standard, well for me anyway, when flying G&T. I have downloaded a couple of things, including the latest version of SSMS which I need to do some work on the plane. I have also sent a couple of emails and now wondering what I’m going to do to pass the time.
06:35/22:35 (-1)
When I get to Heathrow, I parked my car in the multi-storey near terminal three. I’m travelling with Virgin, they fly out of T3 and I’ve decided to keep my keys so it’s short walk to drop my bags and then clear security. Security was painless and I was through in about thirty minutes
04:00/20:00 (-1)
It was an early start for me this morning, the alarm went off at 4 am and after a quick change and wake up, it was into the car for the two-hour or so drive to Heathrow. I was a little late leaving as I had to do my usual routine when travelling, which drives my kids mad when they are with me, of checking I have the passport(s) at least five times before we set off
