Database Administrator?

Are you a DBA working SQL Server and Azure. Do you value certifications as a way of differentiating yourself and demonstrating your knowledge of the products? You probably work hard keeping your skills sharp and up to date.

Older Microsoft Certifications are Retiring

Microsoft has been planning on retiring some of its older SQL Server certifications. The actual retirement date has been pushed back for many certifications due to the pandemic, but they will retire eventually. I have been asked on many occasions over the last few months what is replacing the outgoing certifications.

Azure Database Administrator

The answer is a combination of role-based certifications. I sat the beta exam for DP-300 Azure Database Administrator back in April. I got the results this week, and I passed. That’s a considerable time between sitting the exam and finding out the result. For generally available certification exams you find out the result there and then. I passed which I was pleased about and now means I can teach the associated course that goes with that too. Course DP-300T: Administering Relational Databases on Microsoft Azure. It looks like an excellent course and I’m looking forward to teaching it.
