The Group By data conference is running this October, and the speaker and session selection is well underway. I decided to submit two sessions to this Octobers years Group By Event. There are two versions of the Group By conference. There is a Group by America and a Group By Europe.Â
One of the unique selling points or differentiators of the Group By events compared to other data platform conferences is after the call speakers close, the attendees or potential attendees get to vote on the sessions that they would like. It’s very democratic, the sessions with the most votes get picked for the event. It gives you the attendee the final say in the session selections, so in theory, the schedule should appeal to most attendees and therefore more will turn up to the free event.
The Leader Board
I submitted two of my sessions to both the Americas and the European events. Elections are a numbers game, so my thinking was, by submitting for both it would give my self the best chance of being selected. Because of the time difference, it means I can speak at either America’s event or the European version, or even both if I got enough votes.
Voting opened on the 14th September and remains open until 28th September. We will find out the results on 7th October, and the events run on the 27th (Americas) and 28th (European) October.
The GroupBy organisers have posted some updates throughout the voting period on the state of play. On Friday, one of my sessions had made it into the top 12 of voted sessions for the Americas conference. I think it was meant to be the top 10, but there was a tie in the last spot. With 1.8% of the vote, I scrapped in on the tied value.

If you’re going, you should vote!
So as we approach the end of voting, I thought I’d put the post out to so if any readers who want to attend the conference you still have a chance to have your say on the content. If you would like me to deliver my session give me a vote and if you’d rather see someone else vote for them and bump them up.

Looking at the current top sessions at each event, I think I’ll be tuning to both events late in October regardless of whether or not my session makes it. They are shaping up to be an excellent event
